Frequently asked questions

Does it always go through the Special Registry?

Not always. Since 2022 many cases are recorded by staffed Consulates. If you fall under the exceptions (e.g. large distance, force majeure, court decisions), the case proceeds through the Special Registry.

Who can report the death?

Usually close relatives or a legally authorized representative. We provide templates for powers of attorney where needed.

Is an apostille & official translation required?

In most countries yes. We check the issuing country and guide you on the correct type of legalisation and translation.
